VC giant Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) just released the 6th edition of its Consumer AI Top 100, one of the clearest snapshots of real-world AI adoption. While ChatGPT still dominates, the competition is starting to catch up.
Claude and Gemini paid subscriptions grew over 200% last year.
ChatGPT now has more than 900 million weekly users.
One major change in this year’s list is that AI-enhanced apps were included for the first time. These are traditional apps that added powerful AI features, such as: Canva, CapCut, Notion, Grammarly, and others.
Another fascinating insight from the report: The global AI market is fracturing into 3 separate ecosystems: Western, Chinese, and Russian:
Manus (#44) and (#47) Genspark making the cut, while OpenClaw is absent due to the report’s time frame.
a16z’s Consumer AI rankings have become one of the best indicators of where real AI adoption is heading. Unlike hyped announcements, it focuses on real usage trends.
The biggest long-term trend may not be standalone AI apps. It may be AI features embedded into existing platforms.

AI BREAKTHROUGH
In a rare long blog post, Huang argued that the massive wave of AI infrastructure people talk about today is just the beginning. The hundreds of billions already spent on AI hardware, data centers, and compute?
→ That’s only the early stage of a buildout he believes will require trillions of dollars more. In Huang’s words, AI is becoming core infrastructure, like electricity or the internet.
And if that’s true, then the current AI boom is more like building the power grid of the digital economy. He also explained AI through what he calls a five-layer stack:
Energy → Power plants and electricity
Chips → GPUs and AI processors
Infrastructure → Data centers and networking
Models → Large AI models and training systems
Applications → Chatbots, copilots, AI tools
Every AI product people use relies on all the layers below it. If demand grows at the top (applications), it pulls demand through every layer of the stack. All the way down to electricity. And expansion tends to increase hiring, especially in new roles.
