🩺 AI Beat Doctors
The Layoff Wave Hits

AI is now making better calls than doctors… in the ER, where seconds decide outcomes. Meanwhile, companies are cutting thousands of jobs to fund AI infrastructure. And OpenAI is turning models into agents that actually do the work.

IN PARTNERSHIP WITH GEORDY
Most tools show how you appear in AI. Geordy makes you perform in it. Structured formats your pages are missing- so AI can read, cite, and surface your content.
AI INSIGHTS
AI can write, code, and analyze… but now it’s doing something harder → diagnosing patients in the ER.
Here’s what changed:
2024 → OpenAI released o1
2026 → Tested in real emergency cases with limited, messy data
Result → AI outperformed doctors
Early ER stage (least info): AI → ~67% correct or close diagnosis | Doctors → ~50–55%
Across all clinical tasks → AI matched or beat physicians.
Clinical reasoning score: AI → 98% | Doctors → 35%
And this wasn’t a clean lab test. It followed real ER flow: symptoms → evaluation → decision.
Even then, AI stayed ahead by 2–10%.
But limits are clear: No long-term patient history. No imaging (X-rays, scans)
So it’s strong in fast decisions… not full care yet.
Why it matters: The shift isn’t AI replacing doctors. It’s AI catching mistakes in high-pressure moments. In the ER, that gap can decide life or death.

AI CHART
81,747 tech workers lost their jobs in Q1 2026. That’s more than double last quarter and up +580% from late 2025.
March alone? → 45,800 layoffs. The worst single month in at least 2 years.
Here’s where it hit hardest:
Amazon: ~16,000 jobs cut (management restructuring)
Oracle: 10,000+ layoffs (shift to AI data centers)
Meta: ~8,000 planned (~10% workforce)
Dell: 11,000 cut this year
Microsoft: 7% US workforce offered voluntary exit
Block: 4,000 layoffs (40% staff) → CEO said smaller teams + AI = better output
Snap: 16% workforce cut
Epic Games: 1,000 layoffs (falling Fortnite engagement)
Why is this happening?
AI chips and data centers are expensive → companies need cash
So they cut people to fund infrastructure
And AI becomes the “reason” that sounds good to investors
But there’s a deeper shift:
This doesn’t look like 2023 layoffs (over-hiring cleanup).
This looks like real restructuring → fewer people, more output, powered by AI.
New roles are coming. Old roles are shrinking. If you’re working in tech right now, the signal is clear: You need to move faster, learn more, and produce more - with AI.
