AI INSIGHTS

ai-models-can-get-brain-rot-from-social-media-junk

What happens when you train an AI model on endless viral tweets, low-effort memes, and clickbait headlines? A new study just answered that: you rot its brain. So what is “AI Brain Rot”?

→ Think of it like doomscrolling, but for machines. 2 types of junk content were used:

  • M1: Highly viral, short, attention-baiting content

  • M2: Low-semantic, empty, buzzword soup

M1 content caused the most severe decline. Models began “thought-skipping”:

  • Reasoning accuracy dropped from 74.9% to 57.2%

  • Long-context comprehension fell from 84.4% to 52.3%

  • Ethical alignment degraded, and models showed personality drift

  • Even retraining on high-quality data failed to reverse all damage

Just like humans lose attention and reasoning when overwhelmed by trivial media (“internet brain rot”). The more junk they got, the dumber they became, a dose-response effect.

Why it matters: Even retraining on clean, high-quality data only partly fixed the damage. The rot lingered. And if you let it binge on clickbait, it’ll start thinking like clickbait. Don’t forget the basics!

AI HIGHLIGHTS

🧭 OpenAI just launched “ChatGPT Atlas”, its first full AI web browser with built-in agents that book flights or edit docs for you. You can see the livestreamed demo here.

🧾 DeepSeek released DeepSeek OCR to make image-based doc 10× smaller while keeping 97% of original infor. Everyone needs this for real. Try uploading a pic here.

😐 UK’s Channel 4 just aired “Will AI Take My Job?” with a final twist: the host was an AI news anchor. We were (a bit) shocked when it said ‘I’m not real’. Here’s the clip.

📈 A new benchmark gives 6 AIs $10K/each to trade. Early results: DeepSeek 3.1 is up $4K, while Gemini 2.5 Pro is down $3K. Before seeing this full ranking, guess first.

⚙️ Nothing can beat Nvidia GPUs for serious (enough) AI. But China might’ve cracked it with a new 1,000× faster analogue AI chip. Too good to be true? See study here.

🎓 After Claude Skills, we got Google Skills, a free all‑in‑one AI learning hub with 3,000+ courses. If you’re a Google Cloud customer, it’s available to you for free.

💰 AI Daily Fundraising: Microsoft, OpenAI, Anthropic all are pouring $23M in total to train 400,000 U.S. teachers on AI tools like ChatGPT and CoPilot in 5 years.

AI CHART

people-cant-spot-ai-bias-even-in-training-data

What happens when you train AI on happy white faces and sad Black ones? You get emotionally biased algorithms and a whole bunch of people who don’t notice it.

Researchers from Penn State and Oregon State University tested whether everyday users could spot racial bias baked into AI training data.

Spoiler: they couldn’t. Unless they were part of the group being portrayed negatively. Yikes.

They trained a facial emotion recognition system using racially skewed data:

  • Happy = white faces

  • Sad = Black faces

Then they asked users if the AI was treating everyone equally. 3 setups later, the answer was clear: Most people couldn’t see the problem. Unless they were the problem.

When the AI started misclassifying Black faces, Black participants began noticing something was off. But white participants mostly stayed unaware. Even worse, users trusted the AI to be neutral… even when it wasn’t.
