You hit “generate,” and send off polished junk. It's called workslop & quietly draining billions in lost time. Also, why America might be building plants we don’t even need?

AI INSIGHTS
Gen AI is everywhere. But it’s quietly draining billions. Researchers have a name for it: ‘workslop’ → AI work that looks good but actually makes colleagues do extra work. Here’s how it plays out:
One worker hits “generate,” sends off the doc, and feels productive.
The receivers spend nearly 2 hours fixing, rewriting it. Multiply that across a company, and you’ve got an invisible tax. For a 10,000-person org, that’s $9M a year gone.
The real costs of workslop:
40% of employees said they received workslop just last month.
On average, 15% of workplace content is now slop.
Each incident costs ~$186 per employee, per month.
Beyond money, there’s the emotional toll: 53% annoyed, 42% see the sender as less trustworthy, 37% as less intelligent.
These colleagues lose credibility fast. Others don’t even want to work with them again. Leaders told us “use AI everywhere” and we did. But it turned into copy-paste chaos.
Why it matters: Right now, most workplaces are flooded with passengers (use AI to avoid work → more slop), not pilots (use AI to extend creativity → real value). Workslop is the sloppy work at scale & also the trust tax.

AI CHART
Big AI needs big energy… or does it? A new report says the U.S. might be overbuilding power plants from speculative data center hype. And that could lock us into a fossil-fueled future we don’t actually need. So what’s going on?
A single AI data rack can draw power equal to 80–100 homes (vs. 3 for traditional racks).
Now, AI models need massive compute, causing a surge in energy requests.
Wait… how inflated? Glad you asked.
A 70% surge in gas plant proposals since the AI boom kicked off.
In the Southeast, utility demand forecasts are 4× higher than what independent researchers estimate.
Some devs are requesting energy access before having capital, customers, or even real plans.
Utilities admit it: real need might be 3–5× smaller than what’s on paper.
Who pays for the stranded gas infrastructure? It’s you (via utility bills), and the planet (via 100M+ tons of carbon emissions, just from one Meta data center in Louisiana).
And that’s not all. This buildout is way out of sync with Biden’s 2035 clean energy goal but very aligned with the Trump administration’s pro-fossil fuel stance.
