Even a child knows the date, but Google’s AI can’t even tell what day it is? Meanwhile, a lesser-known model quietly surpassed one of the biggest names in coding (Claude? ChatGPT? Cursor?), and no one saw it coming.

AI INSIGHTS

anthropic-x-ray-vision-ai-tool

Anthropic just open-sourced a tool that lets you trace a language model’s internal reasoning step-by-step, like watching an AI's thought process unfold. It’s called circuit tracing, and it’s now public.

🔍 What Did Anthropic Just Launch?

  • A new method from its interpretability research to trace AI circuits using something called attribution graphs.

  • These graphs show the internal reasoning steps a language model takes to produce a response.

  • You can test your own prompts, see the logic path the model followed, and even edit features to see how output changes.

🧰 What Can You Do With It?

  • Attribution Graphs: Show what inner parts of the model fired during a specific output.

  • Interactive Graph Explorer: Explore, annotate, and share graphs in your browser

  • Supported Models: Works with major open models, including: Gemma & Llama.

Anthropic also provides a demo notebook and unexplored graphs for community experiments. In contrast to many AI labs keeping tools private (e.g. OpenAI), Anthropic is taking a transparency-first approach.

Why It Matters: For years, we've been told AI models are black boxes, too complex to understand. Well, maybe not any more. It’s a competitive signal. And here’s the real curiosity: What if we could eventually edit model reasoning the same way we edit prompts today?. With this release, we might be taking the first step.

AI HIGHLIGHTS

🚀 DeepSeek just dropped a quiet update to its R1 model (R1-0528). No big announcement, but it now beats Claude 3.7 in coding. Potentially LLM’s long-awaited successor, R2, will out any week now.

😎 Legendary music producer Rick Rubin just called vibe coding “the punk rock of software” in a wide-ranging chat with a16z’s co-founders. Watch it here.

❓ “The current year is 2024” - Google's AI said. It’s misfiring on basic factual logic — something even a child could answer correctly. Critics call this “death of the web business model”.

🚧 Redditors keep sharing eerily realistic videos created with Google’s Veo 3, including one that shows influencers handling different “impossible challenges.”

🎥 Odyssey just showed off a demo of its new “interactive video” AI model. It lets users control and interact with AI-generated videos in real time — like stepping into a playable movie.

🌐 Opera just launched Neon — an AI browser that 'can act on your behalf' in real time. You can chat with it, fill forms, book trips, or even build apps. Sign up for the waitlist.

💰 AI Daily Fundraising: Grammarly has received $1 billion in funding from General Catalyst to enhance its AI productivity platform, and AI advancements without giving up ownership.

AI CHART

nasa-25-years-earth-data-ai-hurricane-prediction

Developed with NASA and USRA, GAIA, a new class of generative AI designed specifically for our planet’s atmosphere, can predict hurricanes, detect wildfires, and even estimate precipitation.

GAIA stands for Geospatial Artificial Intelligence for Atmospheres. It’s a foundation model built to understand, reconstruct, and predict atmospheric conditions.

GAIA uses a distributed AI training framework. It was built on 88 GPUs, 15TB of satellite imagery & over 100,000 training steps. It focused on reconstruction, super-resolution, and real-time prediction.

🌍 What makes this model different from other climate tech tools?

  • 4km spatial resolution, 30-minute temporal resolution for real-time use

  • Patch large gaps in satellite data

  • Reconstruct full high-res weather maps from noisy inputs

  • Estimate precipitation directly from satellite imagery

GAIA is designed to be replicated and expanded by research labs, governments, and even startups.

It’s a real signal that foundation models are expanding beyond text and language into real-world physical systems.

Maybe within the next 2 years, GAIA-like models will even power more real-time dashboards for cities, insurance firms, and disaster relief agencies — moving from lab to life-critical systems faster than expected.
