Anthropic is now warning that AI may soon help build its own successors. Claude, OpenAI, and frontier labs are entering a loop where today’s models speed up tomorrow’s models.

2026 State of AEO Report

A year ago, most marketers weren't thinking about AI search. Now it's one of the fastest moving channels in the industry and nobody has a playbook yet.

So we built one. We surveyed hundreds of marketers to find out how they're approaching answer engine optimization, where they're investing, what's actually working, and what isn't.

The result is the 2026 State of AEO Report. Real data. Real strategies. A clear picture of where AI search is headed and how to get ahead of it.

AI INSIGHTS

metas-putting-billions-of-dollars-of-ai-chips-in-tents

Meta is literally building data centers inside tents!? Zuck is ripping a page straight out of Elon Musk's playbook to get more compute online as fast as possible.

Outside of New Albany, Ohio, Meta has erected 6 massive, weatherproof tents, which they officially call “rapid deployment structures.” Satellite images and local permits reveal that Meta put up 5 of these structures in just a couple of months.

The strategy mirrors Tesla's famous "tent factory" move during the Model 3 production crunch, and it's backed up by 200 megawatts of modular gas turbines right next door to bypass the slow electrical grid.

  • Meta is reportedly facing major infrastructure delays. Their latest model, Muse Spark, is technically ready, but the APIs developers need to actually use it keep getting pushed back. They desperately need live servers, yesterday.

  • Meta’s massive plan to spend up to $145 billion on capital expenditures has investors terrified, dragging their stock down 5% this year.

  • Instead of waiting 2 to 3 years to build a pristine, monolithic concrete data center, the new meta is modular, fast, and aggressively pragmatic.

It’s wild, it’s risky, but in 2026, perhaps speed wins.

AI HIGHLIGHTS

🧠 OpenAI just rolled out a new ChatGPT memory system called Dreaming. It helps ChatGPT keep context fresher, fix stale memories, and remember useful details without you always saying “remember this.”

🚀 NVIDIA released Nemotron 3 Ultra, its strongest open model yet. It has 550B total / 55B active parameters, supports 1M context, and comes with open checkpoints, datasets, and model recipes.

🍎 Apple says the App Store generated over $1.4T in billings and sales in 2025, with 90% commission-free. Even more interesting: 40 of the top 100 apps now have consumer-facing AI features.

🧬 OpenAI, Anthropic, Google DeepMind, and Microsoft all backed the same biosecurity push. They want Congress to make synthetic DNA/RNA sellers screen buyers and orders before dangerous sequences slip through.

🍁 Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney launched AI for All, Canada’s new 5-year AI strategy. The target: $200B in growth, 250K AI jobs, and AI adoption rising from 12% to 60% by 2034.

💰 Big AI Fundraising: Ramp raised $750M at a $44B valuation, nearly 3x higher than last year. The fintech now serves 70,000+ customers, generates over $1B in annual revenue, and is betting big on AI.

HOT PAPERS OF THE WEEK

1/ AI can now help researchers build editable scientific figures
CRAFTER from University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, Tsinghua University, and Peking University introduces a multi-agent harness for scientific figure generation. It can handle different figure types and input formats, then turn raster outputs into editable SVGs through CRAFTEDITOR. Big impact: researchers may spend less time rebuilding diagrams by hand and more time improving the actual science.

2/ NVIDIA wants one world model for language, video, audio, and action
Cosmos 3 from NVIDIA introduces an omnimodal world model for Physical AI. It can process and generate language, images, video, audio, and action sequences inside one framework. Key shift: instead of separate models for VLMs, video generation, simulation, and robot policies, Cosmos 3 pushes toward one shared backbone for embodied agents.

3/ AI agents can now learn a person’s work style as a portable skill
COLLEAGUE.SKILL from Shanghai Artificial Intelligence Laboratory turns expert traces into versioned AI skill packages. It captures both capability knowledge, like habits and decision rules, and behavior knowledge, like communication style and correction history. Big impact: personal AI agents may move beyond hidden memory into inspectable, editable, and shareable skill systems.

NEW EMPOWERED AI TOOLS

  1. 🛒 SellerClaw is a team of AI agents that runs ecommerce stores across Shopify, eBay, and more, from sourcing to ads, pricing, fulfillment, and support.

  2. 🧠 Minimi gives Claude ambient memory across your Mac, using docs, calls, messages, and tabs to provide better context privately on-device.

  3. 📊 Leni is a finance-grade AI for investors that analyzes 100M+ rows daily with source links, timestamps, benchmarks, and audit-ready outputs.

  4. 💸 Veltrix AI is a finance copilot that connects QuickBooks, Xero, Shopify, Square, and HubSpot to explain cash flow, margins, burn, and growth.

AI BREAKTHROUGH

anthropic-warning-ai-is-about-to-start-building-itself

AI development is moving fast. We all know that. But Anthropic just dropped a major warning that AI changes how AI gets built. They are calling it "recursive self-improvement." It’s coming much sooner than anyone expected.

  • Frontier models are already drastically speeding up coding, debugging, and AI research. This creates a tight loop where current models help create even more sophisticated successors.

  • Anthropic believes we’re nearing a point where a system like Claude could autonomously build, and train its next version entirely on its own.

  • The company is actively trying to get lawmakers up to speed now, before this tech hits the mainstream and catches regulators off guard.

  • OpenAI flagged this exact same dynamic as a major issue late last year.

We spend a lot of time talking about autonomous agents and building workflows to automate our businesses. Recursive self-improvement is just that exact same concept taken to the absolute extreme limit.

People tend to panic when they hear this stuff. But it is the logical next step of the technology we are already using every day. Jack Clark at Anthropic nailed it: progress is going to speed up, not slow down or plateau.
