Bill Gates just published a major warning about AI. He believes the transition could become one of the most turbulent periods in human history, and governments are moving too slowly.
His biggest concern is that AI won’t affect just one industry. It could hit law, customer service, software, healthcare, manufacturing, and physical jobs within the next decade.
Gates highlights 3 major risks:
💼 Permanent job losses: Entry-level and mid-level roles could disappear faster than workers can retrain.
⚠️ More powerful threats: AI could make cyberattacks, fraud, deepfakes, surveillance, and biological threats easier.
🧠 Impact on children: Heavy AI use could weaken social skills, critical thinking, and real human relationships.
Still, Gates sees huge benefits. AI could improve healthcare, education, agriculture, scientific research, and government services, especially for people who currently lack access.
He also suggests 2 unusual ideas:
“Human Reserved” jobs: Some roles, such as caregiving and parts of healthcare, should remain human even if robots can do them.
Tax AI tokens and robots: The money could support retraining and social safety nets as automation replaces more workers.
Gates says OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, and Microsoft are already working with the Gates Foundation, but governments still need a much bigger plan.
His main point is clear: AI is moving faster than society is preparing for it. The choices made now could decide whether AI becomes a major equalizer or widens the gap between rich and poor.

Google researchers introduced GlucoFM, a lightweight AI foundation model designed to understand continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) data and predict metabolic health outcomes. Main findings:
GlucoFM learns from 109,066 hours of unlabeled CGM recordings from 477 participants using self-supervised learning.
The model separates glucose patterns into 2 parts:
Metabolic baseline: slow-changing signals that represent a person’s underlying physiology.
Transient spikes: short-term changes caused by meals, activity, stress, or sensor noise.
This separation helps GlucoFM create more transferable representations for different metabolic tasks.
This evaluated across 4 diverse cohorts and 7 clinical prediction tasks, and achieved the strongest subject-disjoint performance among tested baselines.
GlucoFM could improve applications such as early diabetes risk prediction, insulin resistance detection, personalized nutrition recommendations, or predicting how someone responds to specific foods.
