After months of hints, OpenAI launched ChatGPT Health, a new sandboxed space inside ChatGPT made just for health-related conversations. Apparently, 230M users ask health questions every week. Here's what it actually does:

  • It's a dedicated Health tab with a separate memory, so your wellness convos don’t bleed into your main chats (and vice versa)

  • If you start asking about symptoms in a regular chat, it’ll nudge you to move over to Health for extra protections

  • You can connect Apple Health, MyFitnessPal, Peloton, Weight Watchers

  • OpenAI says it won’t train models on this data, and Health chats use enhanced encryption (but not end-to-end)

  • It also lets you import full medical records

OpenAI is very clear about this part. ChatGPT Health is not intended for diagnosis or treatment. Hallucinations are still possible.

Over the past two years, OpenAI worked with 260+ physicians, reviewing 600,000+ health responses to prepare for this.

Overview of SleepFM Framework

Stanford just published SleepFM, a foundation model that can predict over 130 diseases using nothing but overnight recordings. Your sleep signals are apparently full of medical secrets. They trained this on:

  • 600K hours of sleep from 65,000+ patients

  • Signals like brain waves, breathing, heart rate, and muscle twitches

  • Then matched that data to 25 years of real patient health records

They found that when certain signals go out of sync, like your brain is in deep sleep but your heart's racing, it’s often a red flag for a future disease. It can predict:

  • Parkinson’s with 89% accuracy

  • Dementia at 85%

  • Heart attacks at 81%

  • And even risk of death at 84%

Most health tests need blood, scans, or uncomfortable visits. This one just needs to plug into your sleep.

Stanford had a killer dataset advantage: decades of actual health outcomes to compare against sleep data. That kind of longitudinal dataset is like gold for this kind of modeling.
