Anthropic released Fable 5.1, an upgraded version of Fable 5 focused on lower agent costs, fewer unnecessary refusals, and stronger long-running work. Its highlights:
Up to 45% cheaper for agentic workloads. Fable 5.1 keeps the same base API price, but cache reads dropped 75%. Anthropic estimates typical workloads cost around 25% less and highly agentic ones up to 45% less.
Anthropic adjusted Fable’s safeguards so legitimate coding and research requests are less likely to get blocked unnecessarily.
Fable 5.1 can work across apps, use tools, recover when steps fail, write its own tests, and continue complex projects with less supervision.
Anthropic says it sets new highs across several internal coding, reasoning, and long-horizon evaluations, including Terminal-Bench and Humanity’s Last Exam.
1M-token context and 128K output, making it suited to large codebases, research projects, and document-heavy workflows.
More enterprise privacy options are coming.
Anthropic also released Mythos 5.1, which uses the same underlying model but removes more safeguards for approved cybersecurity and life-sciences researchers. General users get Fable 5.1.

AI BREAKTHROUGH
Imperial College London researchers developed an AI system that can analyze a routine ECG in under 2 seconds and detect heart conditions that may be invisible to doctors reading the ECG alone. Main findings:
The models were trained on millions of ECGs from international datasets.
They can detect hidden signs of conditions including heart failure and valve disease.
Across Imperial’s reported testing, diagnostic accuracy for heart disease reached roughly 83%–93%.
The system extracts subtle signals from a standard 10-second ECG that even experienced cardiologists may not recognize.
The bigger opportunity is scale. ECGs are already routine and inexpensive, so hospitals could potentially screen for additional diseases without requiring a new test for every patient.
Some of AI’s most practical healthcare gains may come from finding more information inside medical data hospitals already collect, helping doctors catch disease earlier without changing the basic test.
