Albania has named an AI chatbot “Diella” to a cabinet-level government job. And she’s now the official overseer of all public procurement contracts in the country.
On paper, it kinda sounds brilliant… until you remember prompt injection exists. Diella is a virtual minister to:
Run government procurement → approving tenders, evaluating bids, awarding contracts.
Already exist for handling citizen requests via voice commands.
Be framed as an “AI-generated official” created to help eliminate bribes, threats, and shady backdoor deals.
She has real decision power. Rama said Diella is “fully in charge” of contracts. An actual digital authority. But it’s also a bit of a nightmare.
→ Diella can’t be bribed but she can be hacked. Or manipulated. Or misled. Or silently nudged with dodgy code updates.

Predicts who needs immediate cross-linking (a treatment that halts damage)
Gets it right 90% of the time if you feed it just two visits
A single session with this AI could catch high-risk patients before damage sets in. Right now, it only works with one specific imaging device but the team says the method is adaptable to others.
They’re already working on an upgraded model trained on millions of eye scans. Basically: less guessing, less waiting, more sight saved.
Dr. José Luis Güell, a top European eye surgeon, sums it up: "This AI could prevent thousands of cases of vision loss... and avoid the burden of late-stage surgery."
