AI INSIGHTS
A groundbreaking MIT study just sprinkled some seriously concerning findings about what ChatGPT is doing to our brains (at least, when we write essays)… If you’ve ever felt a little foggy after using AI, this might explain why.
What happened: 54 people. 4 months of writing essays. One group used ChatGPT. One used Google like a ‘90s kid. One went full analog: brain only.
ChatGPT made them better at writing. But worse at thinking.
Their brain connectivity dropped, like, flatlined.
When they tried to write without AI later, they looked more like novices than people who’d been practicing for months.
83% of ChatGPT users couldn’t quote a line they just wrote. Compare that to 11% of the brain-only group. Basically: if you use AI to write, your brain goes, “Cool, I’ll clock out now.”
This was the creepiest part. People felt fine using ChatGPT. They didn’t notice the mental fog. The tradeoff only showed up on the EEGs, invisible until scientists literally measured their brains.
MIT calls it cognitive debt. It’s the Google Maps effect, the more you use it, the worse your natural sense of direction gets. You're essentially borrowing against future cognitive capacity for short-term convenience.
This isn’t an anti-AI rant. The study actually found a brain-friendly AI workflow: Think → Write → Use ChatGPT to polish and refine.
People who did it this way actually showed stronger brain connectivity than anyone else.
Why it matters: If you rely on AI from the start, you feel productive but your cognitive “core” gets mushy. So if you're still in your "AI can write it for me" era, maybe… don’t. Let your brain take the wheel sometimes. Or at least keep it in the car. Your hippocampus will thank you.

AI CHART
Chinese AI startup MiniMax just dropped a model called M1 that can handle 1M tokens in context, the biggest we’ve seen to date. And the whole thing was trained in just 3 weeks for $535,000.
It takes in up to 1 million tokens of input, giving itself an 80k token “thinking budget” to generate output.
→ So instead of short-term memory loss every few paragraphs (like many models), this thing can hold an entire project, book, or codebase in its head and still reason through it.
It performs well across the board, but really shines in areas like software engineering, agent tool use, and long-context reasoning.
To train M1 efficiently, MiniMax rolled out a new reinforcement learning method called CISPO → 2x faster training speed. No insane GPU farms, no mega-budget.
Everyone’s been whining that smarter AI = more GPUs = more $$$. MiniMax is proving that clever architecture and optimization can beat brute force.
This kind of long-context capability is what serious AI agents need - ones that don’t forget what you said five prompts ago, or ones that can scan hundreds of pages before answering.
It also opens the door to truly personalized memory systems, smarter assistants, and legal or medical AI that can work at human-scale data levels.
