Anthropic just dropped a browser-based Claude agent for Chrome. It’s a new Chrome extension called Claude for Chrome is now in research preview. It can:
See and understand your active tab.
Click buttons, fill forms, navigate pages.
Take actions on your behalf (with permissions).
Perplexity’s Comet, OpenAI’s rumored browser, and Google’s Gemini are all racing to own browser-integrated AI. The Chrome browser is under antitrust heat, and companies like OpenAI & Perplexity have expressed interest in buying it.
→ Browsers = the new “operating system” for agentic AI?! But Claude can be tricked by hidden text or malicious webs telling it to do things like deleting emails, sharing personal data,… So:
Anthropic ran 123 adversarial tests → initial success rate for prompt injection: before: 23.6% → after: 11.2%
On a browser-specific attack challenge, success rate dropped from 35.7% → 0% after new defenses.
Claude now scans for hidden or sneaky attack patterns (even in DOM, URLs, or tab titles). The waitlist is open now at Claude page.
Why It Matters: Claude for Chrome is a powerful leap into agentic AI, letting it do things, not just say them. But with great power comes real vulnerability. Anthropic is testing the waters carefully and they’re not alone in this race.
