AI INSIGHTS
Microsoft officially announced Project Zenith, a new ready-to-code Windows 11 setup built for high-end developer PCs and local AI workloads. Main details:
Requires at least 64GB of unified memory
Requires 250GB/s+ memory bandwidth
Can run 30B+ parameter AI models locally and unmetered
Launches first on AMD Ryzen AI Halo hardware, with more OEM and silicon partners coming later
Windows settings are also cleaned up for developers, with file extensions, hidden files, full paths, and long-path support enabled by default.
The AI angle is the most interesting part. Microsoft says developers can shift routine coding and agent workloads to local models, avoiding constant cloud API token costs, while still using frontier cloud models for harder problems.
Project Zenith also includes infrastructure for local AI agents, including OS-level identity controls and Microsoft Execution Containers (MXC) designed to isolate agent activity.
This is a specially configured Windows 11 experience shipped on hardware that meets Microsoft’s “developer-class” requirements. Microsoft has not yet announced a Zenith-specific price or exact general shipping date.

AI BREAKTHROUGH
Google Research and HHMI Janelia released the largest brain wiring map ever created by neuron count, covering the complete brain and central nervous system of a male fruit fly. The research was published in Cell. Main numbers:
166,691 neurons
Around 125 million synaptic connections
11,691 identified neuron types
Covers the central brain, optic lobes, and ventral nerve cord, which functions somewhat like a spinal cord.
Human experts at Janelia then proofread and annotated the resulting connectome. The project builds on a 2020 map that contained only about 25,000 neurons and 20+ million connections.
Researchers identified 7,205 shared neuron types, 114 sexually dimorphic types, 262 male-specific types, and 69 female-specific types. These differences are concentrated in higher brain regions involved in behaviors such as courtship and aggression.
The full dataset is publicly available through Google’s Neuroglancer, so scientists can trace circuits from visual, auditory, and smell inputs all the way to motor outputs.
