OpenAI has released a public repository containing 722 math manuscripts across 372 result families, produced largely by an unreleased internal frontier model. The scale of the evaluation is the headline:
The model was given roughly 4,000 open research problems.
A typical successful result used compute equivalent to around 3 hours of ChatGPT Pro thinking.
OpenAI filtered and grouped the outputs into 372 result families based partly on significance.
Many proofs now have Lean formalizations, meaning they can be mechanically checked by a proof assistant.
OpenAI also published 10 abridged reasoning summaries showing how the model approached selected problems.
OpenAI explicitly says the manuscripts are at different stages of verification. Many are formally checked, but some are not, unformalized results may still contain errors.
This release is also controversial. Some have argued that simply using open problems as AI benchmarks risks flooding the field with results before the community can properly verify or absorb them.

AI BREAKTHROUGH
Mistral launched Mistral Large 4, a new multimodal model nicknamed “Le Chonk” with roughly 1 trillion parameters, positioning it as Europe’s alternative to leading U.S. and Chinese models. Main details:
Trained entirely on Mistral’s own compute using just 4,000 NVIDIA GPUs.
Optimized for areas such as cybersecurity, finance, and chip design.
Currently available through a guarded public endpoint.
Mistral plans to release the model weights after roughly three weeks of additional safety testing.
Mistral says the smaller training footprint used 2–3× fewer GPUs than some Chinese competitors and substantially fewer than major closed-model labs.
Early independent testing places ML4 around 6th among open-weight models on Artificial Analysis, while its cybersecurity performance appears especially strong.
Mistral is betting that a capable open-weight European model can give enterprises and gov. another option beyond U.S. closed models and Chinese open models.
ML4 looks like a solid frontier-level release, especially for enterprise and cybersecurity workloads. Whether Mistral can keep shipping upgrades fast enough to stay competitive in this fast market?
