In a new blog post titled “Abundant Intelligence,” Altman laid out a wild vision: OpenAI plans to generate 1 gigawatt of AI compute every single week → the same output as a nuclear power plant, just to fuel models for the public.
Access to AI, he argues, should be a fundamental right. And then a few hours later…Boom. 5 new hyperscale data centers announced.
Oracle’s going big in Texas, New Mexico, and the Midwest, it’s building sites that will pump out 5.5 gigawatts of compute and create 25,000+ jobs.
SoftBank’s moving fast, with two more locations in Ohio and Texas, delivering 1.5 gigawatts within 18 months.
Altogether, they’re now at $400B committed and 7GW already planned, racing toward their 10GW, $500B goal by end of 2025.
Meanwhile… Alibaba may be shipping harder than anyone. It casually dropped 6 product launches in a single day and honestly, it’s kind of absurd. They want to be the electric company for AI.
Why it matters: The sheer scale and speed. We’re not just talking about better chatbots anymore. Governments, VC, and cloud giants are competing to own the infrastructure layer of intelligence.

We all know LLM leaderboards are everywhere now, but they mostly treat every user the same. Doesn’t matter if you’re 15 or 50, speak Spanish or Korean, work in finance or design.

It lets users compare frontier LLMs and vote on which output they prefer
It breaks results down by age, education, language, and country
Data comes from 100 countries, 70 languages
Voting is voluntary, anonymized, and shielded for 60 days to prevent vote manipulation
SEAL Showdown is the first public leaderboard to show performance through a human lens. This isn’t just a flex on LMArena (though it kinda is).
It also creates real utility for AI buyers who want to pick the best model for their users, while LMArena remains the place to check raw performance scores.
We wouldn’t be surprised if OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google tries to build a version of this soon… or just plugs directly into Scale’s system.
