⚠️ Trump Turned to Grok on Venezuela
MuskTroll $20M for DOTS???

Imagine asking a chatbot about the fallout of capturing a foreign president. Trump did exactly that with Grok before Maduro’s capture. Grok apparently impressed him later.

AI agents built to get work done
Skydive agents take on work for you, using the same tools your team already uses.
Talk to your agent on the web, Slack, email, iMessage, or right from your terminal. Wherever you pick up the conversation, your agent keeps the context.
Put agents to work across customer support, sales, marketing, engineering, ops, and more.
Give your agent a job. They’ll take it from there.
AI INSIGHTS
According to reporting from Time, President Trump reportedly spent hours using Elon Musk’s Grok during a private December 2025 meeting, including asking how Venezuelans might react if President Nicolás Maduro were captured:
Grok reportedly told Trump that Maduro was deeply unpopular and that many Venezuelans would likely celebrate his removal.
About a month later, on January 3, 2026, the U.S. invaded Venezuela and captured Maduro.
A source told Time that Trump later viewed Grok as highly capable after public celebrations followed the operation.
Grok has also reportedly been used by the Pentagon through Gov Grok for military operations, while OpenAI and Anthropic also have relationships with the U.S. defense establishment.
The reporting does not establish that Grok caused the decision to invade Venezuela. It shows that Trump reportedly used the chatbot as one source of information while considering the political consequences.
→ AI chatbots are moving beyond research and productivity into high-stakes government decision-making, where incorrect assumptions or overly confident answers can carry much larger consequences.

AI HIGHLIGHTS
✍️ I thought em-dashes were the big AI giveaway. Turns out AI developed new habits. Opus 5.5 loves “this matters,” (it happens 13,000 times), Astra has its own tells too.
⚙️ AWS just launched a tiny 2B decision model inspired by Jev. Instead of calling a frontier LLM for every agent step, developers can use this cheaper, faster alternative.
🤣 This would be peak Musk if true. He reportedly bought Dot.com for $20M after OpenAI launched Dots, supposedly to troll Sam Altman. Great story, very unverified.
😳 AI-generated biology is getting harder to track, so DeepMind built SynthID Bio. It can tag synthetic sequences without hurting lab performance. See how it works.
🛡️ Google says publicly reported software vulnerabilities doubled to 10,740 in August, as hackers increasingly use AI to weaponize newly patched flaws. Report link to see.
🤦 Tech CEOs, and gov. officials proudly shared the new AI accord, then all users spotted a typo on the signatory page. Nothing kills ‘superintelligence’ like this.
🛡️ OpenAI, Google, Anthropic, Meta, Nvidia & xAI signed a voluntary White House Superintelligence Accord, committing to outside audits for their advanced systems.
💰 Big AI Fundraising: Flow Engineering raised $50M to expand its AI tools for hardware design. Its agents help companies like Rivian, Anduril, and GM match CAD designs with product requirements.

🎨 FLUX 3 Image lets you generate images in native 4K, with precise pixel control, multi-turn editing, and up to 10 reference images.
💻 GLM 5.3 and GLM 5.3 Flash are now available in Cursor! GLM 5.3 Max is the best-scoring open-weight model on CursorBench 4.0.

AI BREAKTHROUGH
More pre-training doesn’t always mean better generalization. A new paper found something surprisingly unstable inside LLM training: mode-hopping. This example is wild: OLMo3-32B
2.17T tokens: 81% accuracy
2.19T tokens: 0%
2.21T tokens: 81.7%
So within just 40B more training tokens, performance collapsed to zero and then almost fully recovered. Researchers compared an earlier 4.5T-token checkpoint with a later 4.9T-token checkpoint. After math fine-tuning:
4.5T checkpoint: 36.3% GPQA
4.9T checkpoint: 29.8%
The later model had seen more data, yet became a worse starting point for both transfer and robustness. They think different internal strategies may compete during pre-training. Sometimes the model leans on generalizable reasoning. Other times, easier shortcut-like patterns take over.
That creates a major problem for how we evaluate models. Training loss can keep improving while the model’s actual reasoning behavior quietly gets worse. The final checkpoint may not always be the best checkpoint.
