The conversation between Washington and top tech labs has shifted, with officials floating proposals to demand direct government equity stakes in major AI firms.

IN PARTNERSHIP WITH BELAY

When you started out, handling your own books made sense. But the business you’re running today isn’t the one you started and if your accounting hasn’t kept pace, it’s quietly working against you.

We see it all the time: outdated financials, no clear view of what’s actually profitable and horse every week pulled away from the work that grows your business. These aren’t just bookkeeping headaches, they’re growth bottlenecks.

At BELAY, our Financial Experts integrate directly into your business handling your books, reconciling accounts, running payroll, and delivering the timely insight you need to make big decisions with confidence. Expert-level support, without the overhead of a full-time hire.

Stop guessing. Start knowing. AI Fire readers can download BELAY’s free guide, The Small Business Guide to Outsourced Accounting.

AI INSIGHTS

As seen at this week’s G7 summit, the conversation between AI leaders and government officials has moved far beyond basic safety guardrails. They might be asking for equity.

  • Senior administration officials discussed taking government equity stakes in major AI companies prior to the recent export-control clash with Anthropic.

  • Treasury Secretary favors using this AI equity to fund "Trump Accounts." Commerce Secretary prefers routing it into a sovereign wealth fund.

  • Senator Bernie Sanders also proposed a law giving Americans direct ownership stakes in top AI firms.

Over at the summit, Anthropic's Dario Amodei and Google DeepMind's Demis Hassabis reportedly pushed for a U.S.-led coalition to align on AI rules, chips, and safety risks. These talks occurred right before the Fable and Mythos restriction.

Looking ahead, the industry's best-case scenario is getting Fable 5 back online without aggressive new power grabs, though there is talk about naturally slowing down the somewhat unsustainable "new model every month" release cadence.

If frontier models get locked behind government gates and open-source gets banned, the broader market faces the worst possible outcome: paying whatever the big labs demand due to zero competition, or settling for sub-par intelligence.

HubSpot AEO

Picture this. A buyer opens ChatGPT and asks for a recommendation in your category. Your competitor's name comes up. Yours doesn't. And that buyer never makes it to your website.

That's happening right now in markets everywhere. And most teams don't know it's happening because it never shows up in their analytics.

HubSpot AEO shows you exactly where your brand stands in AI search, where competitors are getting recommended instead of you, and tells you specifically what to fix. No expertise needed.

AI BREAKTHROUGH

us-is-using-chatbots-more-than-ever-but-trust-is-plummeting

Pew Research dropped its 2026 data based on a survey of over 5,000 U.S. adults, tracking how people are interacting with AI versus how they actually feel about it. The findings highlight a stark contrast: while adoption rates are climbing across the board, public optimism is heading in the exact opposite direction.

  • Adoption hits a major milestone: Roughly half of all U.S. adults are now using AI chatbots, and a solid 25% are logging in daily.

  • Pessimism outpaces optimism: Nearly 40% expect AI to make society worse over the next 2 decades. Only 16% believe it will change things for the better.

  • The under-30 divide: Younger users lean on AI the hardest, but they are also the biggest skeptics. Just 14% sees a positive long-term payoff for society.

  • ChatGPT is still the undisputed heavyweight, used by 44% of adults. Google's Gemini holds 24%, while Anthropic’s Claude sits at just 6%.

People are integrating AI into their daily routines because it is useful, but that usage is paired with heavy caution about the future. It also provides a sharp reality check on industry hype.

While a tool like Claude is constantly discussed in tech circles, it barely registers with the average consumer compared to the massive, mainstream footprint of ChatGPT.
