As President Trump touches down in London, the world’s biggest tech companies are dropping billions into U.K. AI infrastructure (over $40B).
U.S. tech is investing heavily in U.K. AI infra as part of a broader AI + quantum partnership between Trump and U.K. PM Keir Starmer.
The centerpiece is Stargate UK, a sovereign AI compute project backed by OpenAI, Nvidia, and Nscale.
Microsoft will build the U.K.’s largest supercomputer (24,000 Grace Blackwell Ultra chips).
Nvidia will deploy tens of thousands of GPUs for AI and quantum R&D across the U.K.
Total announced investment: $32B+ across Microsoft, CoreWeave, and others. Sovereign AI is now real! Local infrastructure. Local regulation. Local control.
UK becomes OpenAI’s flagship “AI-for-Countries” client. And Nvidia becomes the backbone of global AI (60,000 chips deployed across the U.K.)
→ Meta, TikTok, China are also on the sidelines (for now)
Why it matters: Trump’s team is using the trip to lock in U.S. AI supremacy through ally partnerships. The U.K. gets infra, jobs, and AI tools. The U.S. keeps its companies at the center of global compute.

Tongyi Lab dropped a game-changer: DeepResearch, the first fully open-source web research agent that goes head-to-head with OpenAI’s Deep Research agent, and in some cases, beats it.
It runs on just 30B parameters (3B active at inference). That’s tiny compared to most top-tier proprietary agents. And yes, it’s already powering real-world apps.
In ReAct Mode (standard), it already competes with OpenAI’s o3 model:
