AI INSIGHTS
I know we’ve been talking about AI impacting the workplace for years, often treating it like a ‘what if.’ But the latest data shows that the shift is actively happening. It turns out AI is rearranging how companies hire & scale their teams.
The BLS tracked 18 specific occupations that are highly exposed to AI, representing about 10M workers. The numbers reveal a clear divide between the general economy and the tech-exposed sectors:
Overall US employment grew by 0.8% between May 2024 and May 2025. In stark contrast, those 18 AI-exposed fields saw a 0.2% drop.
If you set aside the booming healthcare sector, employment in the other 17 AI-exposed fields fell 1.6% for the second year in a row.
In just one year, technical writers saw an 18.1% decline, radio announcers and DJs dropped 11.1%, and graphic designers fell 7.7%.
Customer support departments shed over 130,000 jobs (a 4.8% drop) as conversational AI tools took over routine inquiries.
It isn't bad news across the board. Fields where AI acts as a helpful assistant are seeing a much more gradual, healthy transition. The "Jagged Frontier" we talk about means that while some jobs are shrinking, the efficiency gains are shifting human talent toward more complex, empathetic, or strategy-driven work.

AI BREAKTHROUGH
The latest data shows that models like Seedance 2.0 and Kling are outperforming Western rivals in realism, prompt-adherence, and camera stability. OpenAI shut down its Sora model, leaving the field wide open for platforms backed by short-video data empires.
Because ByteDance owns TikTok/CapCut and Kuaishou operates massive video platforms, they possess proprietary training libraries that American labs simply can’t replicate.
OpenAI killed Sora because the infrastructure overhead didn't make commercial sense. Meanwhile, Kuaishou's Kling is scaling so fast they are actively exploring a standalone public listing.
American tools constantly throw ambiguous errors or block prompts due to safety guardrails, while Chinese models easily handle aggressive camera angles, high-speed motion, and complex audio sync.
Basically, American labs have created a frustrating user experience for media professionals. If an ad agency constantly hits a wall because a model thinks a fast tracking shot violates a vague safety policy, they’ll move their pipeline elsewhere.
Also, ByteDance is charging US enterprise clients up to $2M in upfront commitments for top-tier access, knowing that Western alternatives simply can't match their temporal consistency or character locking.
