🤯 Anthropic Proposes an AI Kill Switch

Andrej Karpathy Brain Extracted!?

AI models could be blocked before launch if it’s too dangerous. Anthropic wants that in the US, with a surprisingly specific threshold: 50+ deaths or $1B in damages.

57% of enterprises run 10+ AI agents, but 43% of leaders cite security and governance as their #1 barrier to scaling.

Shift to unified agent operations before it’s too late. Read the report to safely govern, secure, and operate your AI workforce at scale.

AI INSIGHTS

anthropic-drafts-ai-bill-to-ban-models

Anthropic’s proposed bill would allow a judge to block a frontier model if independent evaluators believe releasing it creates a foreseeable, imminent risk of 50+ deaths or $1B+ in property damage. That includes scenarios where a model could:

  • Help create a biological weapon

  • Enable a major cyberattack

  • Evade its developer’s controls

If evaluators detect that level of risk, they would have 72 hours to alert the Commerce Department. Commerce could then ask a D.C. judge to stop the model from being released.

Here’s the part that will get debated hard: the “independent” evaluators could still be paid by the AI labs they are evaluating, as long as payment is not tied to the outcome.

Anthropic is basically arguing that frontier AI has reached a point where voluntary safety promises are no longer enough.

That puts it in a very different camp from companies like NVIDIA, whose CEO has argued the industry does not need new AI laws.

If you follow AI news every day or have been in the AI space for a while, you definitely know Andrej Karpathy. If not, you're seriously missing out.

Karpathy was a founding member of OpenAI, led Tesla's Autopilot team, and founded Eureka Labs. He's also famous for his Neural Networks: Zero to Hero series, where he teaches you how to build neural networks from scratch.

Now, imagine having a direct line to Karpathy. Whenever you're stuck, or just need someone to check your work, you could text him and get help.

Sounds amazing, right? So I had a slightly crazy idea: What if I could build my own Andrej Karpathy clone using a Claude Code agent?

Of course, my clone won't replace the real Karpathy. I'll show you how I built it in 5 steps, step by step.

AI BREAKTHROUGH

mercury-3-diffusion-model

Inception just launched Mercury 3, a diffusion-based language model that it says can match or beat GPT-6 Luna and Claude Haiku 5.5 while running 4–8x faster.

FYI, traditional LLMs produce tokens sequentially, while diffusion models can draft and refine multiple parts of the response together. Mercury 3 reaches 1,068 tokens per second on NVIDIA GPUs. A few standout numbers:

  • 1M-token context window

  • $0.20/M input, $0.70/M output

  • More than 40x larger than Mercury 1, while maintaining similar speed

  • Already being tested for voice support, live tutoring, search agents, and browser agents

Inception also says Mercury 3 completed 50% of 50 live Mind2Web browser tasks, outperforming GPT-6.1 Sol in its internal agent test while using the same number of steps and similar token volume.

AI speed is becoming a serious battleground. For agents, tutors, voice apps, and customer support, every extra second compounds across the workflow. Mercury 3 is betting that diffusion models can deliver strong enough intelligence at dramatically lower latency.
