AI INSIGHTS
Within the same week, two major AI labs on opposite sides of the Pacific moved toward huge new rounds.
DeepSeek raised around 100B yuan ($15B). Roughly 2× its original target. Backers reportedly include Tencent and CATL. DeepSeek is also preparing for a possible Shanghai IPO.
OpenAI is seeking another $30B. Target valuation: around $1.25T, that would be about 50% higher than its previous $852B valuation. A possible 2027 IPO is also being discussed.
And there’s a bigger fight underneath all of this. The US is tightening restrictions around Chinese AI, chips, and government use. China is responding by putting more capital behind its own AI companies.
The AI race is no longer just about who builds the smartest model. It’s becoming a race for capital, chips, compute, data centers, energy, and domestic infrastructure.
DeepSeek now has roughly $15B more firepower to push China’s open-model ecosystem, while OpenAI is trying to raise twice that amount on the US side.

AI BREAKTHROUGH
Chinese state-linked hackers used AI agents to turn a ConnectWise supply-chain breach into a machine-speed attack against more than 2,250 Microsoft 365 tenants.
Here’s what happened:
The group, stole ConnectWise Cloud Backup application credentials and used that trusted access against downstream customers.
They used ARTEX, an open-source agentic penetration-testing framework, to automate scanning, password spraying, and OAuth abuse.
At peak speed, the campaign hit roughly 2,900 sign-in attempts per minute across 2,250+ tenants.
In several separate ARTEX-driven attacks, the hackers reached privileged cloud access in under three hours.
The scary part is the speed. Humans normally need time to move from discovery → exploitation → persistence. Agentic systems can test multiple attack paths continuously, giving defenders much less time to react.
Microsoft confirmed follow-on activity in multiple environments, while ConnectWise says it has no evidence that its encrypted backup archives were accessed.
