AI BREAKTHROUGH
OpenAI just dropped the Learning Outcomes Measurement Suite, a new framework built with Stanford and Estonia’s University of Tartu. It’s their first real attempt to track if AI actually helps you retain knowledge or not. It measures:
Motivation: Are you actually engaged?
Persistence: Do you keep trying when the AI gives you a hint?
Recall: Can you remember the info a week later without the bot?
In a trial of 300+ students, those using ChatGPT’s “study mode” for microeconomics scored 15% higher. That’s basically the difference between a B and an A!
But for other subjects, the results weren't statistically significant yet. It seems AI is a godsend for supply & demand curves, but the jury is still out on everything else.
Also, Estonia is going all-in. They are currently tracking 20,000 high schoolers for a full semester to see if AI-first learning is the future or a mistake.
Whether AI is a super-tutor or a "brainrot" machine depends entirely on the framework. OpenAI is smart to build the measuring stick themselves, if they can prove ChatGPT makes us smarter, they win the education market forever.
