The Basics: How To Give Good Instructions To Claude

To make Claude work well, you need to give it very clear instructions. Think of it like you are giving a job to a new employee. You need to tell them 5 things clearly:

  1. What is your job? (Role): Do you want Claude to be a marketing expert, a writer, or a planner?

  2. Who is this for? (Audience): Does Claude need to write for your boss, or for your customers? The way it writes will be different.

  3. What do I do? (Task): Be very specific. Instead of saying "write an ad," say "write 3 Facebook ads, each one under 100 words."

  4. What information do you need? (Context): Give Claude information. For example, tell it about your product and who your customers are.

  5. What should the result look like? (Format): Do you want the answer in bullet points or a table? Just tell it clearly.

If you remember these 5 things, you will see that Claude's answers get much better.

Important Step: Getting Your Claude Ready

This part sounds a little technical, but don't worry, I will guide you step-by-step. To do the "magic tricks" below, you need two things:

  1. Use the Claude app on your computer (Desktop App): These special features only work on the computer app, not the website version.

  2. Give Claude a "long-term memory": Normally, Claude forgets things easily. We will install a small tool to help it "take notes" and remember everything about your work.

You do NOT paste them into the normal chat box. Instead, you do this:

  • In the Claude app, create a new "Project". Think of it like creating a new "employee" for each different job.
