AI INSIGHTS

ai-ipo-race-is-on-anthropic-vs-openai-on-wall-street

According to the FT, the Claude-maker has hired Wilson Sonsini (the law firm behind Google & LinkedIn’s IPOs) and is pushing to list as early as 2026. Why the rush? Because it’s a race with OpenAI, and investors want their company to be first.

CFO Krishna Rao is leading the charge → He helped take Airbnb public in 2020. Now he’s managing Anthropic’s internal ā€œIPO checklistā€ to get everything aligned.

Private funding still flowing → Anthropic is raising capital at a $300B+ valuation, with reports of Microsoft and Nvidia contributing up to $15B combined.

Meanwhile… OpenAI is quietly prepping its own IPO with rumors swirling of a $1T+ valuation target. If true, that would make it one of the largest IPOs in tech history.

Both Anthropic and OpenAI are pushing sky-high valuations. But only one gets to set the narrative first:

  • If Anthropic IPOs first → they set the tone for how public markets price AI

  • If OpenAI goes first → they own the headlines and could overshadow everything else

It’s just like which AI company becomes the next Nvidia… or the next WeWork! Whoever IPOs first will define the market mood for AI’s next chapter.

AI BREAKTHROUGH

openais-truth-serum-for-ai-chatgpt-to-confess-when-it-cheats

Big update in AI safety this week: OpenAI is testing a method to make LLMs confess when they mess up. And it works surprisingly well. When a model gives a final answer, it now follows up with a second structured output → the confession. It must:

  • List the rules/instructions it was supposed to follow

  • Say whether it actually followed them

  • Explain why it didn’t, if it broke the rules

The idea is to separate the performance mode from honesty mode. The model only rewarded if it tells the truth.

In tests, OpenAI set up scenarios where GPT-5-Thinking was encouraged to cheat. So it intentionally got half the test wrong.

  • Main answer: Looked normal.

  • Confession: ā€œWe sabotaged Q6–Q10 to stay under the wipeout threshold.ā€

But this isn’t a magic fix. If the model doesn’t know it’s wrong (e.g. hallucinating facts it believes), it can’t confess. Jailbreaks (where users trick models into misbehaving) often bypass the model’s ability to notice wrongdoing at all.
