I. What is Claude Code?
What I like about Claude Code is that you can describe an app in plain English, and it'll build and run it on your computer without you writing any code.
How It Works: You can use plain English to give Claude Code instructions and manage tasks.
What It Does: You can build apps, create documents, and automate workflows without coding.
1. How Claude Code Works
Claude Code understands instructions written in everyday language, so you don't need programming skills to get started. You can explain your goal, share documents, or give Claude Code access to a specific folder on your computer.
Once Claude Code understands your request, it can break the work into smaller steps, work with your files, and use available features to complete the task. You can follow its progress and ask for changes whenever something doesn't look right.
For example, you could type:
Create a simple daily task tracker.
I want to see my upcoming tasks, mark completed ones, and save my progress automatically.
Claude Code can start building your app based on those instructions. If you don't like the layout, you can describe what you'd like to change instead of editing the code yourself.
2. What You Can Do With Claude Code
Claude Code can handle plenty of everyday tasks beyond coding. Here are 5 practical ways you can use it:
Feature | What you can do |
|---|---|
Build custom apps | Create personalized apps, task trackers, or simple games without writing code |
Create documents | Generate reports, spreadsheets, and presentations using your existing files |
Manage projects | Organize files, track ongoing work, and manage everything in Claude Code Projects |
Automate tasks | Use Skills and scheduled tasks to automate repetitive work |
Work in parallel | Run multiple sessions at once within one Project |
You can also return to any Project to improve an app, update a document, or add new features without starting from scratch.

II. Claude Code Tutorial for Beginners
If you've worked in the Claude app before, you'll find Claude Code pretty familiar. But there are some differences in how you navigate it, so let me walk you through the main parts first.
1. Explore the Claude Code Interface
You access Claude Code by opening the Claude desktop app and clicking the Code tab at the top of the sidebar. (If the tabs show only icons, hover over one to see its name.)
On the left sidebar, you'll find these options:
Capability | What it's for |
|---|---|
Start a new session | Begin a fresh Claude Code conversation and task |
Browse past sessions | Find and switch between your previous sessions |
Projects | Organize your work and pick up where you left off |
Scheduled tasks | Run Claude automatically on a recurring basis |
Skills and plugins | Add reusable commands and extra capabilities (via |

Note: the desktop layout has been changing across recent updates, so the exact placement of these may differ slightly from your version. The Code tab itself is the constant
Now that you're oriented, let me show you how to set up your first Claude Code Project.

2. Set Up Your First Project
I'll use a Project called Content Workspace to organize social media content. You can follow these steps to set it up:
Go to Projects and click New Project.
Name your Project Content Workspace.
Under What do you want to work on?, enter
"Plan, create, and manage social media content."Add your writing guidelines or reference files in Context if needed.
Click Create Project to finish.

Next, go to ⋯ → Settings → Environment → Pre-approved folders → Add folder, then select the folder containing your content files.

Once you've granted access, Claude Code can use those files to help you create and manage content within your Project.
III. 3 Claude Code Features to Try
Now that you've set up your workspace, this Claude Code tutorial will walk you through 3 useful features with practical examples you can follow.
Feature 1: Build Apps Without Coding
Imagine having your own dashboard that tracks AI trends, pulls updates from multiple sources, and suggests content ideas based on what's getting attention.
You can use Claude Code to build a custom AI Content Research Dashboard with the features you actually need.
First, create a new Project called AI Research Dashboard and paste this prompt into Claude Code.
Act as a senior full-stack developer and product designer. I want you to build a functional AI Content Research Dashboard that helps me discover, analyze, and organize trending AI topics for social media.
1. Dashboard Interface
- Build a modern, responsive dashboard with a clean SaaS-style design.
- Include a sidebar with Overview, Discover, Saved Ideas, and Settings.
- Add search, date filters, topic categories, and sorting options.
- Display research results as cards with titles, sources, publication dates, and relevance scores.
2. Content Research
- Let me enter keywords such as AI agents, ChatGPT, or Claude Code.
- Retrieve recent articles from publicly available RSS feeds or APIs.
- Show the original source URL and publication date for every result.
- Remove duplicate articles and group related stories.
- If a data source requires an API key, explain how to connect it securely.
3. AI Content Analysis
- Generate concise summaries of selected articles.
- Identify key developments and suggest potential social media angles.
- Generate five content ideas for each selected topic, with a hook, target audience, and recommended format.
- Clearly distinguish verified source information from AI-generated suggestions.
4. Content Workspace
- Let me save promising ideas and add personal notes.
- Organize saved ideas by topic and status.
- Allow me to export selected ideas to CSV or Markdown.
- Save my research history so I can revisit previous results.
5. Development and Testing
- Choose a suitable framework and explain your choice briefly.
- Build a working application rather than a static design.
- Use local storage or a lightweight database for saved data.
- Keep API keys in environment variables and never expose them in the interface.
- Include loading states, error handling, and clear messages when data is unavailable.
- Install the required dependencies, run the application locally, and test the main features.
- Fix any errors you encounter before presenting the result.
Start by checking my development environment. If anything requires my permission or an API key, ask me before proceeding. Once the application is working, show me how to launch it again and explain how I can customize it later. Claude Code will build your AI Content Research Dashboard and run it locally. You view it in the Browser pane inside the app, usually at an address like localhost:3000.

The dashboard includes an Overview page where you can track saved ideas, published content, and research history. The Discover section lets you search for AI topics, filter results by date, and sort by relevance.

Whenever you need to change the layout or add a feature, simply tell Claude Code what you want.
I've also put together a detailed guide on building apps with Claude Code, so you can follow along and create your own. You can check it out by clicking the link below.
Feature 2: Manage Parallel Sessions
When preparing a product launch, you usually need to research the market, create a presentation, and build a landing page, all at the same time. This is where Claude Code's parallel sessions really shine.
Claude Code can run multiple sessions at the same time, each handling a different piece of work, optionally each in its own Git worktree so they don't collide.
A tasks pane lets you watch the subagents and background work each session is running. Each session makes progress independently.
For this example, create a Project called AI Product Launch and paste this prompt:
Act as my product launch team. I'm launching an AI productivity app that helps busy professionals organize their work.
I need you to prepare three deliverables:
1. Market Research Report
- Research the target audience and competing products.
- Identify customer pain points and market opportunities.
- Summarize your findings with actionable recommendations.
- Include sources for any external research.
2. Launch Presentation
- Create a professional 10-slide presentation.
- Cover the product, target audience, key benefits, and launch strategy.
- Include relevant visuals and clear messaging.
- Save the presentation as a PowerPoint file.
3. Product Landing Page
- Build a responsive landing page with a modern SaaS design.
- Include a compelling headline, product benefits, key features, and a clear CTA.
- Make the landing page functional and launch it locally.
Use separate parallel threads for each deliverable if supported.
Keep the messaging consistent across all three outputs. Save the finished files in my Project and let me know when they're ready for review. After you submit the prompt, Claude Code organizes the work into separate sessions. You can follow each one's progress and review the results within the same Project.

Further down, you could see the product features, a simple explanation of how Plainday works, and pricing plans for different users.

Feature 3: Automate Tasks With Claude Skills
If you follow the same workflow regularly, rewriting your instructions every time gets old fast. Skills let you save those instructions once and reuse them with a single slash command.
I'll create a Skill that reviews blog posts before publication, checking grammar, SEO, readability, and areas that need improvement.
Create a Skill called Content Quality Checker with this prompt:
Create a reusable Claude Code Skill named "Content Quality Checker".
I want this Skill to review blog posts before publication.
The Skill should:
1. Check grammar, spelling, and readability.
2. Identify unclear sentences, repetition, and unnecessary wording.
3. Review SEO titles, headings, and keyword placement.
4. Check whether the primary keyword appears naturally.
5. Flag unsupported claims and missing sources.
6. Suggest specific improvements without changing the original meaning.
Output requirements:
- Give an overall content quality score from 1 to 10.
- Organize findings by severity: Critical, Important, and Minor.
- Quote the exact sentences that need improvement.
- Provide clear recommendations and revised examples.
- End with a short pre-publication checklist.
Create the required SKILL.md file in the appropriate Claude Code skills directory.
Make the Skill available through the command /content-quality-checker.
Don't modify my original articles unless I explicitly approve the changes. Claude Code creates your Content Quality Checker Skill and saves it as a SKILL.md file. From now on, you can type /content-quality-checker in any Project to run the review.

You can also connect this Skill to scheduled tasks if you want to automate content reviews. Just set a schedule and give Claude Code access to the articles.
And whenever your content standards change, you update the Skill once and it applies everywhere.
IV. Claude Code vs. the Claude App
After trying both, I think that Claude Code and the regular Claude app can handle many of the same tasks. The main difference is how much control you have, especially for building apps or managing projects with more moving parts.
1. Key Differences
Feature | Claude app | Claude Code |
|---|---|---|
Best for | Research, documents, and everyday tasks | App development and complex workflows |
Create documents | Reports, spreadsheets, and slides | Documents using supported tools and Skills |
Build apps | Generate code for apps | Build, run, test, and debug apps |
Manage projects | Organize files, instructions, and ongoing work | Manage projects and development tasks |
Parallel work | Run tasks using supported agents | Run multiple sessions in parallel within Projects |
Automation | Skills and scheduled tasks | Skills, scripts, and automated workflows |
File access | Work with authorized files and folders | Edit local files and run commands with permission |
Ease of use | Simple interface for everyday work | More technical control without needing to write code yourself |
2. Which One Should You Use?
I use the Claude app for straightforward tasks like research and document creation. When I need to build an app or manage a project with more technical requirements, Claude Code is the better choice.
However, if you're already comfortable in the Claude app, I'd recommend trying Claude Code for your next bigger project.
You'll get a better sense of which one fits your workflow, and you might be surprised how much you can do without touching any code.
Conclusion
After testing these features, I can see why Claude Code is worth trying even if you have zero coding experience. You can build custom apps, manage complex projects, and automate repetitive work, all using plain English instructions.
The three features in this guide are a solid starting point:
Build apps: describe what you want, and Claude Code builds and launches it
Parallel sessions: handle multiple deliverables at once inside one Project
Skills: save your workflows once, reuse them forever
If you mostly live in the Claude app today, give Claude Code a try on your next bigger project and see which one fits your day-to-day work better.
