Meta’s Ray-Bans just crashed their own demo by overloading servers. NVIDIA and Intel signed a $5B chip deal that could reset the AI hardware race. And an open-source model leapt straight into the top 5 without warning…

Your time deserves better work

Clearing inboxes won’t grow your business. Wing gives you a dedicated virtual assistant to run scheduling, admin, and follow-ups. So every hour you save can turn into momentum you can scale.

AI INSIGHTS

open-model-leaderboard

The open-model race is getting tighter than ever. September brought new players, shifts in rank, and a fight where every point matters.

🏆 Holding Strong

  • Qwen-3-235b-a22b-instruct → still #1 (overall #8)

  • Kimi-K2-0711-preview → steady at #2 (overall #8)

  • DeepSeek-R1-0528 → holds #3 (overall #9)

  • GLM-4.5 → stays at #4 (overall #13)

  • Mistral-Small-2506 → steady at #9 (overall #53)

New Entry

  • Longcat-flash-chat → debuts at #5 (overall #20)

➡️ Movers

  • MiniMax-M1 → #5 → #6

  • Gemma-3-27b-it → #6 → #7

  • GPT-OSS-120b → down to #8

  • Nemotron-Ultra-253b → slips to #10

🚪 Dropout

  • Command-A-03-2025 → out of the top 10

Why it matters: Open models are closing the gap fast. The top 3 are now only 2 points apart. New players like Longcat can jump straight into the top 5, showing how quickly the space is moving. For builders, this means more options, faster progress, and tougher competition at the very top.

AI HIGHLIGHTS

😬 Meta’s smart glasses crashed live at Meta Connect - not because of Wi-Fi, but because thousands of Ray-Bans in the room all triggered at once, basically DDoS’ing their own dev server. One staffer was later fired with no explanation.

🎤 Higgsfield dropped Lipsync Studio, their most realistic lip-sync tool yet. Free until Sept 22 with unlimited generations + 6 wild examples bundled.

🎥 Luma just released Ray3, the world’s first reasoning video model that critiques its own outputs and delivers full 4K HDR footage. Draft mode gives previews in 20s, then upgrades to cinematic quality in under 5 minutes.

⚠️ Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei said there’s a 25% chance AI development goes “really, really badly.” His bluntest warning yet about disaster risk.

📜 California’s new SB 53 bill could force big AI labs (>$500M revenue) like OpenAI and DeepMind to file safety reports and incident disclosures. A rare state-level check on AI giants.

💰 AI Daily Fundraising: NVIDIA and Intel announced the partnership, with NVIDIA investing $5B in Intel stock. Together they will co-develop custom data center CPUs and PC chips, integrating NVIDIA NVLink with Intel’s x86 tech to power next-gen AI infrastructure and personal computing.

AI CHART

how-we-built-the-first-ai-generated-genomes

We’ve gone from reading DNA → writing DNA → now designing DNA.

A team just used AI to build the first fully synthetic genomes - moving beyond single proteins or CRISPR systems into complete, functional phages.

How they did it:

  • Custom gene annotation pipeline → solved overlapping gene problem in ΦX174.

  • Fine-tuned Evo models → trained on 14,000+ Microviridae genomes to generate viable sequences.

  • Screening protocols → rapid testing of 285 synthetic genomes; 16 worked in real E. coli hosts.

Results:

  • Each successful phage had 67–392 novel mutations.

  • Some combined genetic parts never seen in nature (e.g., new packaging proteins).

  • AI-designed phages even beat bacterial resistance that blocked natural phages.

Why it matters:

  • This is the first proof that AI can design whole genomes, not just tweak existing genes.

  • Opens a path to custom phage therapies for antibiotic-resistant bacteria.

  • Shows AI can explore evolutionary space that natural selection hasn’t designing life with rules nature never tried.

From Sanger’s first sequencing in 1977 → to full chemical synthesis in 2003 → to AI design in 2025. Genomics just entered a new chapter.
