If you missed OpenAI’s livestream yesterday, Sam Altman and chief scientist Jakub Pachocki showed up & answered hot questions. Not another “hey we’re excited about AGI” talk guys, let’s see. First, they’re now a for-profit, OpenAI officially finished its legal reshuffle:
A nonprofit foundation now owns 26% of a new for-profit company called OpenAI Group
Microsoft holds ~27% (worth ~$135B) & get exclusive model rights until 2032
Everyone else, investors, employees, etc., own the rest
Basically: they can now raise all the money they need without legal friction, but they’re still saying “this is for the public good.”
Oh, and Elon Musk tried to buy them for $97B. That didn’t go through. Sam casually said OpenAI wants to build an “infrastructure factory” that cranks out 1 gigawatt of AI compute per week.

Why it matters: Jakub even said it might be less than 10 years until we hit superintelligence. They hinted GPT-6 isn’t here yet, but big jumps are coming fast, potentially within 6 months!?
